Tablecloth Size Calculator
Add twice the drop to the size of the table. For floor length on a standard 30 inch high table, add 60 inches: a 6 foot table (72 x 30 in) takes a 90 x 132 inch cloth, an 8 foot table a 90 x 156, and a 60 inch round a 120 inch round. For a 15 inch half drop, add 30: a 60 x 102 on a 6 foot table, a 90 inch round on a 60 inch round.

What size table does a tablecloth fit?
Every standard cloth, the tables it hangs on without pooling on the floor, and the drop it gives on each.

Tablecloth sizes for home dining tables
A dining table at home usually takes a shorter cloth than a banquet table, hanging about 5 to 15 inches, so one standard size covers a range of tables. Measure the top of your table and find it in the ranges below.
| Tablecloth | Fits a table of | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| 52 x 70 in | 28 x 46 to 40 x 58 in | 4 to 6 |
| 60 x 84 in | 36 x 60 to 48 x 72 in | 6 to 8 |
| 60 x 102 in | 36 x 80 to 48 x 92 in | 8 to 10 |
| 60 x 120 in | 36 x 96 to 48 x 108 in | 10 to 12 |
| 52 x 52 in square | 30 x 30 in | 4 |
| 60 in round | 38 to 44 in round | 4 |
| 70 in round | 46 to 58 in round | 4 to 6 |
| 90 in round | 60 to 78 in round | 6 to 8 |
From Consumer Textile Corporation's chart of standard sizes. On every table in each range the cloth hangs 5 to 15 inches, our arithmetic. For a floor length cloth, use the calculator above.
How to work out a tablecloth size
Measure the top of the table, then add twice the drop you want to each dimension, once for each edge. A 72 x 30 inch table with a 15 inch drop needs a cloth 30 plus 30 wide and 72 plus 30 long: 60 x 102 inches. For a round table, add twice the drop to the diameter. Stop at the height of the table: anything longer pools on the floor, where guests trip on it.
- Short drop, about 8 inches: covers the edge and the legs show. Casual meals, outdoor parties, a table under an overlay.
- Half drop, 15 inches: halfway to the floor, the usual choice for guest tables at a seated dinner.
- Floor length, 30 inches on a dining table and 42 on a highboy: hides the legs and whatever is stored underneath. Buffet, cake, gift and head tables.

- What size tablecloth for a 6 foot table?
- A 6 foot banquet table is 72 x 30 inches and 30 inches high. For floor length, use a 90 x 132 inch cloth: 30 inches of drop on every side. For a 15 inch half drop, a 60 x 102. A 60 x 84 gives a short drop, 15 inches over the sides and 6 over the ends.
- What size tablecloth for an 8 foot table?
- An 8 foot banquet table is 96 x 30 inches. A 90 x 156 inch cloth reaches the floor on every side, and a 60 x 126 gives an even 15 inch drop. A 60 x 120 also works: 15 inches over the sides and 12 over the ends.
- What size tablecloth for a 60 inch round table?
- A 120 inch round reaches the floor on a standard 30 inch high table. A 108 inch round stops 6 inches short of the floor, leaving a little room for feet, and a 90 inch round gives a 15 inch half drop. A 60 inch round seats 8.
- What size table does a 90 x 156 tablecloth fit?
- An 8 foot banquet table, 96 x 30 inches, to the floor on every side. It is too long for a 6 foot table: it would pool 12 inches on the floor at each end. For a 6 foot table, the floor length cloth is a 90 x 132.
- How far should a tablecloth hang?
- About 8 inches for a short drop that covers the edge, 15 inches for a half drop, and the full height of the table, usually 30 inches, for floor length. Highboy cocktail tables are 42 inches tall, so a floor length cloth there is a 114 inch round on a 30 inch top and a 120 inch round on a 36 inch top.
- How many tablecloths do I need for an event?
- One per table, including the buffet, cake, gift and welcome tables, which usually go to the floor. Add each kind of table to the calculator with how many you have and it totals the order by size. Keep a spare or two for spills.
- What are the standard tablecloth sizes?
- Rectangular cloths for home tables come in 52 x 70, 60 x 84, 60 x 102 and 60 x 120 inches, and rental companies add 90 x 132 and 90 x 156 to reach the floor on 6 and 8 foot banquet tables. Round cloths come in 60, 70, 90, 96, 108, 114, 120 and 132 inches, and square cloths in 52, 54, 72, 85 and 90 inches.
- What size tablecloth for a table that seats 6?
- A 60 x 84 inch cloth, which fits rectangular tables from 36 x 60 to 48 x 72 inches. A smaller table for 4 to 6, up to 40 x 58 inches, takes a 52 x 70. A round table for 4 to 6, 46 to 58 inches across, takes a 70 inch round. For a 6 foot banquet table, see the first question.
