Terms of Service

The agreement between your business and Rentopus: what the service does, what you are responsible for, fees, and how either side can end it.

Updated October 29, 2026Version française

The short version

  • You own your data and your customers' data. We process it to run the service for you.
  • We are not a party to your rentals. Your prices, contracts, safety and insurance stay yours.
  • The price you sign up at is the price you keep. No setup fee, no minimum term, no fee per user, truck or booking.
  • A 14 day free trial with no card. Paid plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time and export your data for 30 days afterwards.
  • Messages to your customers need their consent, and you are responsible for getting it.

A summary to help you read. The full text below is what applies.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between Mikael Cote and Vincent Daigle, doing business as Rentopus ("Rentopus", "we", "us") and the business that creates an account ("you"). They cover the Rentopus website, the dashboard, the booking websites we host for you, and everything else we provide under the Rentopus name (together, the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you accept these Terms on behalf of your business, and you confirm that you have the authority to do so. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.

These Terms are also available in French. The Service is offered to businesses only; it is not offered to consumers for personal, family or household use.

1. The Service

Rentopus is software for party and event rental companies. It keeps track of the equipment you own and when it is booked, publishes a booking website for your business, takes bookings and quotes, collects signed rental agreements, and helps you plan deliveries and pickups.

We improve the Service continuously. Features may be added, changed or retired. When a change removes something you rely on, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract.
  • The information you give us about your business must be accurate and kept up to date.
  • You are responsible for everything done under your account, including by staff you invite. Keep passwords private and remove access for people who leave.
  • Tell us right away at rentopus@hotmail.com if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

3. Your customers and your rentals

We are not a party to any rental. When one of your customers books through your booking website or accepts a quote, the contract is between your business and that customer. You decide your prices, deposits, cancellation terms and rental agreement, and you are responsible for them.

You are also responsible for the equipment you rent and how it is used: its condition, delivery, setup, anchoring, supervision rules, insurance, licenses, permits and inspections, and compliance with the laws that apply where you operate.

The Service calculates availability from the inventory and bookings you enter. It prevents a unit from being promised twice only when your inventory is accurate. Check it.

Guides, templates, calculators and sample text we provide are general information, not legal, insurance, tax or safety advice. Have a professional review anything you rely on, especially your rental agreement.

4. Messages to your customers

The Service can send email and, from 24 October 2026, text messages to your customers on your behalf. You are the sender of those messages. You are responsible for having the consent the law requires before we send them, including under the TCPA and CAN-SPAM in the United States and CASL in Canada.

We record the consent wording a customer agreed to and honor opt outs such as a reply of STOP. Do not ask us to message anyone who has not agreed to hear from you.

From 31 October 2026 you can turn on the texting assistant, which replies to the texts customers send to your number, from that number, on your behalf. It says it is an automated assistant, answers from your catalog, prices and rules, and hands the conversation to you when it cannot help or the customer asks for a person. You are the sender of its replies, so keep your catalog, prices and rules accurate and read its conversations. You can turn it off at any time.

SMS terms for people who receive our texts

These terms apply to anyone who receives text messages from Rentopus about a booking made with a rental business that uses Rentopus.

  • What you get. Rentopus texts you, on behalf of the rental business you booked with, about that booking: the confirmation, delivery updates, reminders, changes and payment notices. Each text names the business, for example "Bounce Demo Co via Rentopus". We never send marketing texts.
  • How you join. You tick the box that asks for texts on the business's booking form (what it looks like). The box starts unticked: texting is optional and never a condition of booking.
  • How often. Message frequency varies with your booking, usually a few texts per booking.
  • Cost. Message and data rates may apply.
  • Stopping. Reply STOP at any time and the texts stop. You get one text confirming it. Reply START to receive them again.
  • Help. Reply HELP for help, or write to rentopus@hotmail.com.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  • Privacy. Mobile numbers and text message consent are never shared or sold for marketing. Our privacy policy has the details.

5. Payments from your customers

When you turn on card payments, payments from your customers are processed by Stripe, on a Stripe account in your business's name that you connect to the Service, under Stripe's own terms. Your subscription to Rentopus is also billed through Stripe. The money goes to your account, not ours. Refunds, disputes and chargebacks are between you, your customer and Stripe, and you are responsible for them.

6. Free trial, fees and renewal

  • Free trial. A new account starts with a 14 day free trial, with every feature included and no card asked for. You can choose a plan at any time during the trial; the first charge is then on the day the trial ends. If the trial ends without a plan, your account is marked as expired. We may then limit it until you choose a plan, and we will tell you before we do. Your data is kept as described in section 13.
  • Automatic renewal. A paid plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period, for the same length and at the price you are paying, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, as described in section 13.
  • Fees for the Service are the ones shown on our pricing page when you choose a plan, or in a written order you accept. They are billed in advance for each billing period, in the currency shown. A business in Canada is billed in Canadian dollars at the Canadian price.
  • Plans are month to month, or yearly if you choose yearly billing. There is no setup fee, no minimum term and no notice period to cancel.
  • What you pay depends only on the plan you choose. Adding people, drivers or vehicles to your account, and taking more bookings, does not change your fees. We charge no platform fee on payments from your customers: you pay only the card processing fees that Stripe charges your own Stripe account.
  • The price of the plan you are on does not go up while you stay subscribed to it. If we change the price of a plan, the new price applies only to businesses that subscribe to that plan after the change. When you change plans, the new plan is billed at its price as shown when you change.
  • If your active items go over your plan's limit, nothing is switched off: your booking website and your dashboard keep working. You have 30 days from the day we tell you to move to a plan that fits or to reduce your active items. After that we may move your subscription to the smallest plan that fits your active items from your next billing period.
  • Fees do not include taxes. Where we are required to collect sales tax, GST, HST or QST, it is added to your invoice.
  • If a payment fails, we may suspend paid features after telling you and giving you a reasonable time to fix it.
  • Except where the law requires otherwise, fees already paid are not refunded, including for a partial period.

7. Your data

You keep all rights to the content you put into the Service and to the information about your customers ("Your Data"). You give us permission to host, copy, process and display Your Data only as needed to provide, secure and support the Service for you.

For information about your customers, you are the one who decides why it is collected and we process it on your instructions. Our Data Processing Addendum forms part of these Terms and sets out how we do that. How we handle information about you and your staff is in our Privacy Policy.

You can ask us for an export of Your Data at any time while your account is open, and for 30 days after it closes.

8. Acceptable use

You agree to follow our Acceptable Use Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: use the Service lawfully, for your own rental business, and do not use it to mislead people, send unwanted messages, or interfere with the Service or other users.

9. Your booking website

You are responsible for what your booking website says, including your prices, photos, descriptions, policies and privacy notice. Only publish content you have the right to use.

Your booking website may show a small "Powered by Rentopus" link, which you can turn off where your plan allows. If you connect your own domain, it stays yours: you are responsible for keeping it registered, and you can point it wherever you choose, during and after your subscription.

10. Availability and support

We work to keep the Service available and fast, and to fix problems quickly, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error free. We may take it down briefly for maintenance, and we try to do that outside of busy rental hours. Support is available at rentopus@hotmail.com.

11. Services from other companies

The Service relies on other companies for hosting, email, maps, payments and text messages. They are listed on our subprocessors page. Where you connect an account of your own with one of them, such as Stripe, your use of it is also governed by their terms.

12. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design and the Rentopus name and logo, belongs to us and our licensors. These Terms give you the right to use the Service while your account is in good standing, and no other rights.

If you send us suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.

13. Cancelling and ending the Service

You can cancel at any time from your account (Billing, then Manage card and invoices) or by writing to rentopus@hotmail.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have paid for, and you are not charged again.

You can also close your account yourself, from Your data. Closing ends your plan the same day, without a refund for the rest of the period, takes your booking website offline and makes the dashboard read only. It is not available while you have bookings still to come. You can reopen the account until it is deleted.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, fail to pay, or use the Service in a way that puts other users, your customers or us at risk. Where it is reasonable, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.

After your account closes, you have 30 days to request an export of Your Data. After that we delete it as described in our Privacy Policy, except what the law requires us to keep.

14. Disclaimers

Apart from what these Terms expressly promise, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all other warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non infringement.

15. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows:

  • Neither side is liable to the other for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, even if told they were possible.
  • Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

16. Indemnity

You will defend and compensate us against claims by third parties arising from your rentals, your equipment, your contracts with your customers, the content of your booking website, or messages sent at your request, including the costs of defending those claims.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will tell you by email or in the dashboard at least 30 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not, you can cancel before it takes effect.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict of law rules. The courts of the judicial district of Montreal, Quebec, have jurisdiction over any dispute, except that either side may seek urgent relief in any competent court. Nothing here removes rights you have under laws that cannot be set aside by agreement.

19. Language

These Terms and the policies they refer to are available in English and in French, and the two versions have the same force. A business in Quebec receives the French version first; by choosing the English version, you confirm that you asked to deal in English. Les parties ont expressément convenu que ces conditions puissent être rédigées en anglais, après avoir reçu la version française.

20. General

These Terms, with the policies they refer to, are the whole agreement between us about the Service. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of our business.
