Concession Machine Rentals: Commercial Cotton Candy, Popcorn and Snow Cone Machines

A commercial cotton candy machine from Gold Medal or Paragon listed at $1,025 to $2,895 on 16 October 2026, an 8 ounce popcorn machine built for rental at $800 to $1,450, and a snow cone machine at $650 to $995. Operators rent each for about $40 to $149 an event, and most charge for sugar, kernels or syrup on top.

Key takeaways

  • Gold Medal's cotton candy machines ran from $1,025 (Breeze) to $2,895 (Stainless Tornado) and Paragon's from $1,347.42 to $1,679.94. Nostalgia's popcorn cart manual says "FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY".
  • These machines draw 972 to 1,636 watts, about 8 to 13.6 amps at 120 volts. A 20 amp household circuit carries 16 amps of plug in load, so two machines rarely share one.
  • Gold Medal's 8 ounce Flossugar pouches make 8 to 10 cones each, about 15 to 19 cents of sugar a cone. Its 6 ounce all in one popcorn case works out to about 22 cents a bag.
  • Published rental rates run from $40 a day (Canyon Party Rental, Utah) to $149 for 6 hours (Jump N Play, Indianapolis). Supplies sell at $18.50 to $25 per 50 servings.
  • Gold Medal says never put water in the floss head, and cleans a popcorn kettle with 2 tablespoons of Heat 'N Kleen per gallon of water, boiled at a half inch deep.
  • Health rules turn on who serves and to whom. Texas requires a permit when a firm prepares food; Minnesota exempts small stands on private property under $1,000 a year.

What concession machines add to a rental business

Concession machines are add ons. A cotton candy or popcorn machine is light, rides along with a bounce house or a table and chair order, and adds a line to an order you are already delivering. They rarely justify a trip on their own, and they bring cleaning, supplies and a food question that inflatables do not.

The pillar guide, how to start a party rental business, lists concession machines among the items added once tables, chairs and tents are running. If you are still deciding which add ons to carry, party rental business ideas compares them side by side. Foam machines are the other common add on with their own power and cleanup, covered in the foam party machine guide.

Commercial vs residential machines

A commercial machine is built and warranted for repeated paid use; a residential one is a kitchen appliance. The rental question is not whether it makes cotton candy, but whether it survives a truck every weekend and whether its warranty covers you when it does not.

Nostalgia sells the residential models that fill search results, from a $59.99 cotton candy maker to a $389.99 popcorn cart. Its manual for the 8 ounce Vintage Professional Popcorn Cart (CCP510) says "DO NOT use outdoors. FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY", even though the same manual describes the cart as designed "for both home and commercial use". Its one year warranty covers "normal home use" and excludes "other than ordinary household use". A machine rented to strangers every Saturday is outside those terms.

Commercial makers sell rental versions on purpose. Gold Medal lists a rental collection, including a "Super 88 Popcorn Machine, Rental Version" it calls "perfect for rental companies". Paragon built its Rent-A-Pop for rental companies, with load rated handles and polycarbonate panels in place of glass. Even within commercial lines there are tiers: Gold Medal says its Sno-Bowl is "not a high-volume industrial machine" but suits party rental and smaller scale operations.

Commercial cotton candy machines

A commercial cotton candy machine has a stainless cabinet, a spinner head with a heating element, and a bowl about 26 inches across. Gold Medal and Paragon both publish prices, and both rate their machines at about 2 to 3 cones a minute.

For rental, three details matter more than output. First, the bubble: a clear dome over the bowl, such as Gold Medal's Pink Double Bubble at $210.95, keeps sugar strands off the customer's lawn, and Bounce 'N' More in Texas rents its machine with one. Second, the head: Paragon says its all metal heads will not clog like ribbon style machines, while Gold Medal sells both ribbon and tubular elements and an "EZ Kleen" head. Third, a cart: Gold Medal's Floss About Cart lists at $399.95 and saves the customer finding a sturdy table.

Commercial popcorn machines

A rental popcorn machine is a 6 or 8 ounce kettle in a cabinet, light enough for one person to carry and tough enough to ride in a truck. The 8 ounce size is the rental standard: Gold Medal and Paragon both make 8 ounce models sold specifically to rental companies.

Glass is the rental weak point. Paragon swaps it for polycarbonate on the Rent-A-Pop and claims polycarbonate is far stronger than the acrylic competitors use; Gold Medal's rental Super 88 keeps tempered glass. Either way, carry the machine upright and strapped.

Commercial snow cone machines

A commercial snow cone machine is an electric ice shaver with a cabinet that holds the shaved ice. Rental units are smaller and lighter than stadium machines but use the same aluminum shaver heads and motors, and run on cubed ice.

Snow cones bring one job the other machines do not: ice. A machine that shaves up to 500 pounds an hour needs a customer who has bought ice, or an operator who delivers it, and water to drain afterwards. Canyon Party Rental in Utah tells customers its machine needs "just add ice".

Power draw and circuits

Concession machines are heaters and motors, and they draw as much as a bounce house blower. The machines above draw 972 to 1,636 watts, which is about 8 to 13.6 amps at 120 volts. The rule that decides an outlet is the one in the bounce house generator guide: a 20 amp household circuit carries 16 amps of plug in load, a 15 amp circuit 12.

Amps are watts divided by 120, our arithmetic, except where the maker lists amps.

What follows for a booking:

  • One machine, one circuit. Two of the lightest machines here, at 8.1 and 8.3 amps, already exceed 16 amps together. AZ Party Oasis asks for one standard outlet within 50 feet; Bounce 'N' More asks for "1 Dedicated 20 Amp Circuit".
  • Count the blower too. A bounce house blower draws 7 to 13 amps, so a cotton candy machine and a bounce house on the same backyard circuit will trip it.
  • Size the generator for the sum. An Econo Floss and a Super 88 run at 2,773 watts together; with the 25 percent headroom guide 16 recommends, that is about 3,470 rated watts.

Supply kits and cost per serving

Supplies are where a concession machine earns beyond its rental fee. Bought from Gold Medal, cotton candy sugar costs about 15 to 19 cents a cone and a portioned popcorn kit about 22 cents a bag with the bag included. Operators resell those servings at roughly 37 to 50 cents.

Prices read 16 October 2026. Cost per serving is our arithmetic from the listed case contents.

Two habits keep supply margins honest. Sell supplies in fixed blocks of 50, as Arizona Bounce Around does, so the customer buys for a guest count rather than guessing. And state the return rule: Arizona Bounce Around says unused popcorn supplies cannot be returned. Gold Medal also sells a Sno-Kone syrup and cup kit at $69.95, with two syrups and 50 cups in each kit and six kits to a case; we could not tell from the page whether the price is per kit or per case, so it is not in the table.

What operators charge

Published operator rates for one machine run from $40 a day to $149 for 6 hours, with most between $60 and $100. The spread follows service: a pickup only rental at the low end, delivery and setup at the high end, and supplies sometimes included.

At those rates the machine pays for itself quickly. A $1,025 Breeze rented at $95 covers its price in about 11 rentals, and a $799.99 Rent-A-Pop at $74.95 in about 11, before supplies, cleaning time and repairs. The pricing ladder for add ons, and when to bundle them, is in how to price bounce house rentals.

How to clean each machine between rentals

Clean every machine the day it comes back, following its maker's instructions, because sugar hardens and oil goes rancid. The rule that matters most: keep water out of the cotton candy spinner head. Gold Medal says never to put water in the floss head, and never to use oven cleaner or abrasives on its machines.

How to clean a cotton candy machine

From Gold Medal's setup and cleaning guide for its 3015 machine (12 October 2021):

  1. Run all the sugar out of the floss head.
  2. Turn the heat to its highest setting for about a minute to bake off the remaining sugar.
  3. Unplug the machine and let the head cool to room temperature.
  4. Wipe the surfaces with a clean, damp cloth.
  5. Take out the floss pan and the bubble, wash them with soap and water at a sink, rinse and let them dry.
  6. Never put water in the floss head, and use no oven cleaner or abrasive materials.

Gold Medal publishes a separate video on cleaning the 3015's slip rings to keep it running properly. It gives no interval on the page, so ask Gold Medal or your dealer how often your model needs it and put that on the shop checklist.

How to clean a popcorn machine

Gold Medal's kettle cleaning method (29 June 2021) is a heat and soak, not a scrub:

  1. Mix 2 tablespoons of Heat 'N Kleen with 1 gallon of water. A 31 ounce jar costs $11.95.
  2. Pour the solution into the kettle to a depth of half an inch. Never immerse the kettle.
  3. Plug in, turn on the kettle heat, and turn it off when the solution starts to boil.
  4. Let the kettle cool for at least an hour, then dump the solution into a bucket.
  5. Rinse the kettle with clean water and a cloth, and wipe it dry.
  6. Wipe the cabinet with a slightly damp cloth, and clean glass with a non ammonia cleaner: Gold Medal warns that ammonia cleaners damage plastic doors and panels.

Paragon says the Rent-A-Pop's non stick kettle needs only a wipe with a damp cloth, and both makers fit an "old maid" drawer that catches unpopped kernels. Empty it every time.

How to clean a snow cone machine

Gold Medal's instruction for the Sno-Bowl is short: drain the excess water through its no leak drain, then wipe down the surfaces with a clean cloth. Do that on site before loading, so the machine does not ride home full of meltwater, then dry it fully before storage.

Make the customer's part explicit

JJ's Party Rentals says its machine "must be emptied of sugar and wiped down before pickup". Write your own version into the agreement, with a cleaning fee if it comes back sticky, and keep the deep clean for the shop, where you control the water and the cleaner.

Food safety and health permits

Whether anyone needs a health permit depends on who prepares the food and who receives it. Renting a machine to a host who spins cotton candy for invited guests is different from your attendant making and handing out servings, and both differ from a customer selling at a public fair. State and county rules decide each case, so ask the local health department.

What three state sources say:

  • Texas. The Department of State Health Services' retail food FAQ says "A firm must have a retail food establishment permit if any food or beverage preparation is conducted", and that a permit is not required if a firm only offers prepackaged non potentially hazardous food, such as bottled drinks or snacks. Many Texas cities and counties run their own programs, which DSHS maps by jurisdiction.
  • Minnesota. Statute 157.15 defines a food and beverage service establishment as an operation that "prepares, serves, or otherwise provides food or beverages", and a special event food stand as one used at celebrations and special events for no more than ten days in a license period. Section 157.22(15) exempts a special event or seasonal stand on private property, with the owner's permission, that takes $1,000 or less in a calendar year and posts the state's sign if it sells potentially hazardous food.
  • Wisconsin. Statute 97.01(14g) defines a restaurant as a place where the predominant activity is preparing, serving or selling meals "to transients or the general public".

Read together, the pattern is consistent: rules attach to whoever prepares and serves food to the public, and private, unpaid service at a host's own party sits at the edge of them. That is why some operators restrict their machines. Bounce 'N' More rents its cotton candy machine only for "small private backyard parties with 50 servings or less", and no longer for church, city, school or community events.

For your own business, three practical rules:

  1. Ask before you staff it. If you send an attendant to make and serve, you are the one preparing food. Ask your health department whether that needs a permit where you operate.
  2. Tell public event customers to check. A school carnival or a fundraiser that sells cotton candy to the public is the kind of event a temporary or special event food permit covers.
  3. Sell supplies sealed. Supplies handed over in the maker's sealed pouches and kits are the closest thing to the prepackaged food Texas exempts.

Damage and your rental terms

Most damage to concession machines happens in transport or in cleaning, not at the party. Glass breaks, sugar gets into motors, kettles get scrubbed with the wrong cleaner, and cords get crushed. Put the rules in the agreement and the damage charge next to them.

What the makers and operators point to:

  • Transport upright. Arizona Bounce Around requires a pickup truck or full size SUV for its popcorn machine, a 35 by 24 inch opening, and says the machine cannot be laid flat.
  • Glass and panels. Paragon uses polycarbonate on its rental popper to prevent breakage; Gold Medal warns that ammonia cleaners damage plastic doors and panels.
  • Water and solvents. Water in a floss head, and oven cleaner on any part, are the two things Gold Medal says damage its machines.
  • Heat and weather. Canyon Party Rental tells renters not to leave equipment outside overnight, in a hot vehicle or unattended, and holds the renter responsible for serious damage, theft or loss.

Spell out cleaning fees, a damage charge, and who pays for a broken panel, alongside the damage waiver, as your rental agreement and damage waiver sets out clause by clause.

Booking machines and supplies

A cotton candy machine is one unit, and a busy Saturday asks for three. The calendar has to know how many you own, and that a machine back at 9pm Saturday is not clean until Sunday.

Party rental software that counts stock by quantity handles the first part: list each machine as a rental item with the number you own, and checkout stops offering it once every unit is out for that window. A per item turnaround time handles the second, keeping a machine off sale while it is cleaned. A package of a machine and its cart reserves both, so the cart cannot be promised to another order.

Rentopus is booking, delivery and payment software for party rental companies. Your availability, your booking website and your signed agreements in one place, so two customers are never promised the same unit on the same Saturday. See how it works · Browse the guides

Frequently asked questions

How much does a commercial cotton candy machine cost?

On 16 October 2026 Gold Medal listed its Breeze at $1,025, its Econo Floss at $1,150 and its Stainless Tornado at $2,895, and Paragon listed its Classic Floss at $1,347.42 and Spin Magic 5 at $1,507.56. Add a bubble cover, about $211 from Gold Medal, and a cart if customers will not have a sturdy table.

What is the best commercial popcorn machine for a rental business?

An 8 ounce machine built for transport. Paragon's Rent-A-Pop ($799.99) has polycarbonate panels, folding handles and makes 147 one ounce servings an hour. Gold Medal sells a Super 88 Rental Version ($1,450) with an all welded frame and tempered glass. Avoid residential carts: Nostalgia's manual says its 8 ounce cart is for household use only.

How do you clean a cotton candy machine?

Run the sugar out, then turn the heat to maximum for about a minute to bake off what is left. Unplug it, let the head cool, and wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth. Wash the pan and bubble with soap and water at a sink. Gold Medal says never to put water in the floss head or use oven cleaner or abrasives.

How do you clean a popcorn machine?

Gold Medal mixes 2 tablespoons of Heat 'N Kleen per gallon of water, pours it half an inch deep in the kettle, heats it until it boils, then turns the heat off. After at least an hour it dumps the solution, rinses and dries the kettle. Never immerse the kettle, and use a non ammonia glass cleaner on the panels.

How much should I charge to rent a cotton candy machine?

Published operator rates ran from $40 a day for a pickup only rental in Utah to $149 for 6 hours in Indianapolis, read 16 October 2026, with most between $60 and $100. Supplies are usually extra: Arizona Bounce Around charges $18.59 per 50 servings, and Bounce 'N' More $25 for floss and cones for 50.

Do I need a health permit to rent out a cotton candy machine?

It depends on your state and on who serves. Texas requires a permit when a firm prepares food, but not for prepackaged non potentially hazardous food. Minnesota exempts small event stands on private property taking $1,000 or less a year. Renting the machine to a private host differs from staffing it yourself, so ask your county health department.

How many amps does a cotton candy machine draw?

Gold Medal's Breeze is rated at 996 watts, about 8.3 amps at 120 volts, and its Econo Floss at 1,248 watts, about 10.4 amps. Paragon's spec sheets list 1,636 watts and 15 amps for its Classic Floss and Spin Magic 5. Give each machine its own 20 amp circuit, since that circuit carries 16 amps of plug in load.

How many servings does a cotton candy machine make?

Gold Medal rates its Breeze and Econo Floss at 2 to 3 servings a minute, and Paragon rates its Classic Floss and Spin Magic 5 at 200 cones an hour. Supplies set the real limit: one 8 ounce Gold Medal Flossugar pouch makes 8 to 10 cones, so 50 guests need about five to seven pouches.
